The Shotgun and the Tyke Toter, however, have mini handlebars for the child to hold onto (Shotgun’s are optional). In our experience, the Shotgun’s mini handlebars are fun, but don’t play a significant role in determining which seat is best for you as kids didn’t seem to miss having their own handlebars when they weren’t there.

It also allows you to keep an eye on what they are doing, which is more difficult if they are in a rear seat behind you.I can now talk with her much more easily. I can hear her singing (sometimes without end) more easily. I can judge her mood and whether or not she’s willing and able to continue or needs to find a park to have a swing at more easily. Comfort of the Shotgun front bike seat Front bike seats are extremely common as a means of transporting small children in the Netherlands and Denmark. If you're using your bike for daily transport (rather than mountain biking) then it's worth thinking about cargo bikes. The Thule Yepp 2 Mini is a light, and easy to use front bike seat. It gives your baby or toddler a full view of the road (or cycle path) and because it is made out of water-repellent materials, stays dry and easy to clean (great during those potty training months!). Traditional front mounted child bike seats with harnesses (most common) will prevent a child from being ejected off your bike in the event of a sudden and extreme stop. They will also help keep your child supported if they happen to fall asleep during the ride.

A lower kids’ seat is also helpful for shorter parents with average sized kids. Riding with a child’s helmet hitting your chin isn’t the most pleasant experience, and makes downhill riding with a lowered saddle more difficult. With placement on a sloping top tube, the height of the Shotgun’s saddle will be lower the closer you position it to your own saddle, and higher the closer you place it to your head tube. The footrests attached to the legs are like mini MTB pedals with grip to keep kids feet in place better. Our first ride was an early one. R was still in her PJs and hadn’t had breakfast! Needless to say, she was thrilled to be having a go and was more than happy to postpone her chocco cereal: Saddle sits lower on the bike, making it a more universal fit for riders of all heights. Also allows for better true ready position while descending, as well as more room for growth. She also enjoyed the stylish mini grom bike seat! It is truly is the new and improved seat from Shotgun. It is still padded and plush, but with a new sleek design. In addition, the seat angle was effortless to adjust. This is another adjustment you need to make before hitting your favorite trails. The Thule Yepp Nexxt Mini is one of the most popular bike seats on the market. It’s a comfortable rear-mounted seat that’s perfect for short or long journeys, and we love that both parent and child can remain comfortable and happy on 1-2 hour long cycle rides. While bike trailers cocoon a child within a covered metal frame, are much closer to the ground, and are designed to stay upright when your bike falls to the side, kids are much more exposed in a child bike seat. This mounting style also keeps the bike seat stationary when you turn the handlebars. This keeps your baby’s weight and the center of balance of the seat more consistent. Some parents prefer this because it tends to affect the adult’s balance less. Some older bikes (where the gear or brake cable runs along the top of the top tube, however cables that run elsewhere on the bike are fine)

Designed to easily fit onto virtually every size mountain bike frame, the Shotgun is really popular with parents wanting to introduce their children to the joys of off road cycling from an early age.

While not everyone will love that the Shotgun Original and 2.0 seats rest on your bike’s frame (carbon-framers, we see you!), there is a definite advantage to this set-up. Of the four major MTB kids seats, the Shotgun Original and Shotgun 2.0 both sit considerably lower than the Shotgun Pro, but just slightly lower than the Mac Ride on the bikes we’ve tested them on. Loosen the dial at the end of the foot peg for the right foot – 5 to 10 turns (see left arrow below) The footrests on the Do Little, Shotgun, and Mac Ride all extend down from the seat mount and rest of the sides of the down tube. The Mac Ride and the Shotgun also have rubberized straps that can be adjusted to fit closely against the child’s foot. The Shotgun Pro includes two spacers, for use on two bikes. Installing the Shotgun Pro spacer replaces 10mm of standard steerer spacers on your bike.

Bike seats mounted on the top-tube are a great solution for slightly older kids, from 2 or 3 years old. Some parents find a stem mounted seat can affect balance or steering (particularly off-road) as the weight is over the front of the bike. In this case, some parents favour a frame-mounted seat where the weight is more towards the centre of the bike. The Kids Ride Shotgun bike seats allow adventurous mountain biking parents to bring little groms along for the ride. Designed to fit a wide range of bike frames, the Shotgun seat will allow you to share your love of the shred with your little one. Start ’em young and raise ’em right!
