It just looks off to me for some reason, and I think that’s mostly due to the exposed blue Technic pins. Vertical Grip’ that have used to attach the Robin's wings which could've been brown but I guess in this case it can represent shadow and depth.

I do believe TLG got the bluejay correct as they usually have black around the beak and the blue is usually just on top of the head. LEGO Birds continues the incredible run of LEGO Ideas sets and is another feather in the cap of a consistently remarkable theme. In this case the white and brown is showing though a small gap above the assembly of the red belly of the Robin. I have two complaints which I have with most LEGO sets: when having SNOT techniques used in a LEGO set is requires you to assemble an opposite colour to the brick/s it will attached on to.There are recolours of certain pieces which are now exclusive to this set at the time of this review: Plate 2X4X18° (Dark Green), Corner Plate 45 Deg. Despite being the simplest model, the Hummingbird takes the cake for the most interesting scene overall. Take a look at the other collectable sets in the series including the LEGO Flower Bouquet (10280) and the LEGO Bonsai Tree (10281). These beautiful and detailed models come with their own presentation stands showing their scientific names, so that you can display your birds for all to enjoy or detach and play as you wish. Overall: 5 - It has one or two problems that come from the deep vaults of LEGO but besides that I can only judge the build on its own merits.

The techniques used to build the head is quite simple, stacking lots of plates onto one another but it results in a very pleasing pixelated look. I would love for LEGO to release another Birds sets with a different trio as I really enjoyed this set.Anyway the models are impressive recreations and would make a great gift for any adult or birds enthusiast.

The set has 232 pieces and features a nest with a flowering branch and space for a mama bird, 2 chicks and 3 Easter eggs. I await each new quarterly review and announcement with feverish anticipation, curious to see what fan-voted set from LEGO Ideas gets turned into a retail product. I still like Ideas, the sets being put out are consistently awesome so I’ll be voting with wallet as long as they keep creating fun sets. I mean, Birds was the largest set coming in at 580 pieces, many of which were tiles and cheese slopes– many pieces for a relatively small set. It certainly is a great channel for LEGO to test the waters and experiment with new themes and Ideas (heh) at a relatively low cost, compared to an investment that a full fledged theme requires.

Each print is made using Lego letterpress, combining individual building blocks into stamps to recreate the birds’ shapes and patterns, a technique perfected over the past decade by his frequent collaborator, the artist Martijn van der Blom. The Hummingbird’s head looks a little robotic due to the lack of eyes, but because of the size constraints, I think the designers did well with what they had to work with.
