Mia was then diagnosed with an extremely rare condition known as ‘locked in syndrome’ which medics have described as “the closest thing to being buried alive”. Mia Louise Austin inspired thousands of people after suffering a stroke which left her unable to move or speak. She was left with Locked In Syndrome, a medical condition that damages part of the brainstem, paralysing the body and most of the facial muscles.
